Black Romance in 2021

Black independent romance authors have been creating their own lane for years, from writing and marketing their own work, to adding elements in romance that traditionally published romance authors weren’t yet doing. According to a survey done by Book Riot, romance was the leading genre that kept readers reading during the pandemic.

In 2021, you cannot mention Black Independent Romance without mentioning Alexandria House, Christina C. Jones, and Love Belvin. Each of these ladies has consistently written stories that have uplifted Black love and honored Black men and women.

In celebration of Black Indie Authors Day (August 21st) and our virtual Behind the Pen, I wanted to create a more intimate and up close (as up close as you can get through a computer screen) way for authors and readers to connect. Fifteen Sistah Girls (readers) were able to listen in on our conversation as it happened in real-time. That’s right we had a live (virtual) audience!

I dived deep into their work, we talked about how they balance their careers, and how they navigate through these Black literary streets.
