I Think I’m In Love With My Best Friend (Part Three) by Skye Moon

**The Present**

Doogie

Amena and I stood on the back porch engulfed in awkward silence as the events from the right before leading up to us taking our friendship to another level ran through my mind. There were so many things that I wanted to say to her, a million questions that I wanted to ask, but I couldn’t force my mouth to work if you paid me.

All I was capable of was standing there staring at her in all of her beautiful glory wishing that I could express the feelings tumbling around inside of me.

“What?” She finally said, wrapping her arms around her body while forcing her eyes away from me.

“Nothing, I just–I don’t know what to say.”

“You seemed to have a hell of a lot to say a few minutes ago.” Mena muttered angrily. “I can’t believe that you tried to–”

“I’m sorry,” I blurted out, realizing how upset she was. “I was just joking, and I would never put you or what happened between us on blast like that.” Moving forward, I placed my hands on her shoulders. “But Mena, I can’t stop thinking about it or you.”

“Doogie,” She let out a sigh, pushing my hands away. “We crossed a line. And while it was a very, very good night, we can’t let that cloud what we have. You’re my best friend, I don’t want to lose that.”

“And I get that, but I can’t ignore what happened either. Can you tell me that you haven’t thought about it before last night.”

“We’re not doing this.” She attempted to walk away, but I caught her arm by the wrist and gently pulled her back.

“Why you tryna run from me, Mena?” I lowered my voice, pinning her body between mine and the railing.

“Because this isn’t right.”

“Nah,” Chuckling lowly, I slowly ran my tongue across my bottom lip. “I know you so much better than that. I think you running because this is right, and you scared of it.”

“In case it’s escaped your notice, relationships don’t seem to work out too well for me.” She sassed, glaring up at me in a way that made me chuckle.

“Nah, it hasn’t. I’ve sat back and watched every tear you’ve cried over a fuck boy or crush that didn’t make the cut, wishing that I had the courage to step up to the plate and tell you how I was feeling. I ain’t doing that shit no more Mena.”

“Doogie, I–”

“Nobody knows better than I do how hard of hearing you can be at times, so this is what we gonna do.” I dipped my head low enough to trace the bottom of her earlobe with my tongue. “After you leave here, you gonna go home and chill until about five. Then, your pretty ass is gonna get all dressed up for me to pick you up at seven and take you on a date.”

“T-that’s not how you ask,” She stammered, flustered by my nearness to her.

“I wasn’t asking,” I smirked. “I’m telling you.”

“You can’t just–”

Giving in to the feeling that had been coursing through me since the moment I walked through the door, I captured her lips with mine and plunged my tongue into her mouth. For somebody that claimed to not want anything to do with me on that devil, Amena didn’t hesitate to kiss me back.

Keeping in mind that her grandmother could catch us, I reluctantly pulled away and licked my lips. “Seven, Mena. Be ready.”

“Why?” She murmured, staring up at me with those brown eyes that gave her the power to get anything that she wanted out of me.

“Why what?”

“Why would you want me?”

“I’ll tell you what, I’ll answer that tonight over dinner. I gotta go.”

Leaving her there, I headed back into the house confident, yet nervous about what I’d just gotten myself into. I was going on a date with my best friend and had one shot to convince her to give me a chance for us to be more. I couldn’t fuck it up. I wouldn’t fuck it up. As far as I was concerned, Amena was mine and nothing was getting in the way of that.

Hitting up my boy Todd, I asked him to link so we could grab some food, and talk about the whole situation from a man’s point of view.

Bianca

Placing my hands on my hips, I tried to control the thumping of my vagina as Todd and his fine ass friend from the night before came strolling into the restaurant where I worked.

“I got it,” I stopped the waitress who was in the middle of heading over and beelined for the table with a wide smile stretched across my face.

“Hey, y’all.”

“What’s up Bianca,” Todd greeted, while Doogie just shot me a head nod.

“You know what you want to drink?”

“Just water,” Doogie didn’t even spare me a glance while shooting out his answer and continuing his conversation. “But on some real, I can’t fuck this up. Mena means too much to me.”

Rolling my eyes, I walked away to grab their drinks so it wouldn’t seem as if I was being nosey. I had a hard time placing Mena the night before, but after kicking it for a couple of hours, it dawned on me that she was the one that had been messing around with my cousin, Chris. As far as I knew, they were still an item, so it was definitely my business to try and find out exactly what Doogie meant.

After filling the glasses, I slowly walked back to the table to catch as much of the conversation as I could.

“So y’all going on a date, like a real date?” Todd questioned, making my blood pressure rise.

“Yeah man, I mean, it only seems right.”

“I’m with it, but–”

Dropping their drinks off, I raced to the back to find my phone in my locker. Fishing it out of my bag, I didn’t hesitate to call Chris.

“Hello?” He answered on about the third ring.

“Hey, remember I told you I saw your girl last night?”

“Yeah, what about her?”

“You’ll never believe what I just overheard…”
