Black Mystery and Suspense Novels

I am not a spooky book reader, but now and then, an author will write something even a skeptic enjoys. Now, sis, I am afraid of my own shadow, but baby, I really enjoy a good mystery and suspense novel now and again.

So let’s get into a few stories packed with mystery, suspense, a dash of crazy, and just the right amount of over-the-top drama we live for.

Peek it’s Boo by Lisa Austin

Now sis, this story here is super short, and it was so much fun. The main character is named Hallow minus the Ween. He was in the streets and living his life. When he took his little gobbling trick or treating, the surprise he received was in the form of a supernatural Vixen named Pocus. The story is concise and super cute.

After you’ve finished reading, you’ll definitely want to read the other books in the series: Peek It’s Boo 2 and Peek It’s Boo 3

Trick’d (Of the Stars Book 1) by Dandridge Monroe

Now, this is not my normal reading lane, but this… this story was unimaginable and mystical about a gargoyle and his fated mate. The deeper story is how vivid the characters appeared and the intricate details Dandridge Monroe wove into the storyline.

I do not think I have ever met a gargoyle that I liked, until now. This is a three-part series, so you have to keep reading: Treat’d (Of the Stars Book 2) and Tether’d (Of the Stars Book 3).

Call Me Mrs. Taylor: An Obsessive Dark Romance (The Taylors Book 1) by Shae Sanders

Raya is a first-class manipulator who is determined to get Ace Taylor by any means necessary. She will lie, degrade others, and resort to outright trickery to ensure that she will be Mrs. Ace Taylor. Initially, Ace is taken in by the conniving wench.

Her beauty and perceived confidence had this man thinking he had a prize, then he realized her obsessive ways were a bit too obsessive. This story is a page turner and high key a whole Lifetime movie in the making.

The Birthday Girl by Mesha Mesh

Sistah Girls, this story was twisted with a maniacal undertone. Mesha Mesh is new to me author, so I went into this story with my eyes wide open.

Taliah one day hoped she would have the best birthday ever. In the past, no one cared or ever remembered she was alive. After her zip code changed, her financial outlook increased, but she continued to be isolated. And even though she was in a committed relationship, she continued to be lonely.

Then the unthinkable happens, and all eyes are on her, and now she has to clear her name and get some good old-fashioned revenge in the process.

The Exes by Brandon Massey

This is one of the deviant stories I read when I feel the need for revenge reading. The Exes is a scary and exhilarating read.

A woman scorned is one thing, but when she is also deranged, that is another thing. Naomi tried to kill her husband because she thought he was doing something wrong.

She goes to jail and emerges years later as the same deranged woman. Austin and their son have moved on with a new lover. Naomi did not have any of that ish…

The twist and the overwhelming shock value will keep you turning the pages.

Holiday Heat: A Novella by Beverly Jenkins

71iqvw8IyUL. SL1500

The story was originally part of the Once Upon a Holiday Anthology in 2010. This Halloween novella is short, sassy, and a little sexy, and it is still relevant today.

ATF agent Eve Clark always does things according to the law and codes. That was until she was coaxed into attending a masquerade ball. Leyton Palmer, a Detroit Policeman, was the exception to her rule. The story moves at a rapid pace, and their relationship culminates in real time.

Although Leyton and Eve were in law enforcement, it was easier to see how their careers would add to their relationship’s chemistry. After their initial encounter at the masquerade ball, little did they know they would see one another again in both of their job capacities.

Sistah Girls, mysteries and suspense are always on my list of stories to read. Sometimes it is so much fun when the rabbit has the gun, especially when I am knee deep and the plot keeps evolving. Bring on the suspense stories with a dramatic theme, and I am there.
