Love Hurts: Lessons In Love Series by Genesis Woods

Sistah Girls, I had a wonderful time with the numerous fascinating books I’ve read over the past few months. I am not a huge fan of excessive drama series unless it is good drama.

Occasionally, I encounter books that I want to throw against the wall, and then, I relent and read them. Let us talk about this amazing book. I have read this story a few times, it is written by one of my favorite authors, and I wanted to give you a fair warning. You might not be able to put it down.

The story is about a couple on the brink of divorce and their last-ditch effort to save their marriage. It begins with the couple at their counseling session (separately).

First, I will give you a brief backstory.

Lovie and her husband, Kingston, have known each other since their college days at LSU. He was the love of her life from the very beginning, and she was his. Then he became a megastar, and their life changed. Lovie thought the stardom went to his head and he started to believe he was the ish… and she was so busy working her way up the corporate ladder that their marriage was third on their list.

Now, that is where I wanted to pull up a chair and sit in on the therapy session.

Now, I did not want to take sides without probable cause. Sometimes there is smoke, but there is no fire. And when Lovie kept going in one direction and Kingston in another, after a while, the two rarely met in the middle.

For a good portion of the story, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to scream for them to sit down and talk to one another, or for them to call it quits. Because they were always being so defensive with one another, it was difficult to watch.

The story unfolds in three parts. We have the chance to witness the separate counseling sessions with Lovie and Kingston, and then we are a party to the sad moments of their separation and the possibility that they will endure life apart.

The couple was already struggling, and you all know how shady scorned friends can be when they notice a crack in your armor. And, naturally, social media caught wind of this salacious story and made matters worse for Lovie. Poor Kingston could not catch a break.

But if you call a medical emergency an act of God, Kingston will say it was so. And just as quickly as the reprieve came, it faded away with the name Kayla.

Y’all, I wanted to take that Kayla’s ass and drop-kick her over the moon. Kayla was Kingston’s new assistant, who made it her business to insert herself in the middle of his business with his wife. Now, granted, he was a man doing dumb man stuff and created his drama with no help from his brain.

There is an issue that will explain the poor communication between Lovie and Kingston, which will make their problem clearer later in the story.

I sometimes thought Kingston did not always take Lovie’s point of view seriously during their disconnected period. I promise I am not taking sides.

Although the story had a great deal of angst, it was heartwarming and kept me cheering for this couple to survive the onslaught of mayhem they had to endure in this story.

Genesis Woods did her thing when she wrote this story. She kept the dialogue and the nuances in the storyline, enticing. The thing I liked most about the story was that it was believable.

Sistah Girls, I highly recommend this book!
