Sweet Vengeance (Sweet Demons Book 1) by Viano Oniomoh
Sistah Girls, I have been in a reading slump and normally would not go for a read that has trigger warnings however I will say this was an amazing read trigger warnings and all!
This book certainly helped me grow as a reader because now I will no longer shy away from trigger-warning reads that are so tastefully written.
Sweet Vengeance by Viano Oniomoh is an intriguing paranormal romance that draws you in from the beginning and barely lets you go at the end. The story touches on complex themes of revenge, love, and trauma while following Joy and Malachi.
Joy, is a woman who seeks revenge against the man who ruined her life. In her desperation, she makes a deal with a demon named Malachi, who needs her help to stay in the mortal realm.
My Thoughts
The chemistry between Joy and Malachi is electric from the moment they meet. Despite their initial mistrust, they are drawn to each other in a way that they cannot resist. The explicit scenes are a 4.5 out of 5 on the spicy meter! 🌶 🌶🌶🌶
It could be more or less depending on if you’re into a little BDSM, woman domination/male submission, and brief descriptions of lesbian interaction. The representation in this read was certainly there!
As they work together to bring down Joy’s enemy, they begin to realize that their relationship is more complicated than they ever imagined.
It was nice to see how they unpacked their traumatic pasts affecting their present to get to their future. This tale also dives into hard topics like PTSD, sexual assault, illudes to child molestation, and grief.
Oniomoh’s writing is immersive, I enjoyed reading a novel set in Nigeria. It has paranormal elements taking the approach of blending worlds and injecting a bit of folklore into the plot.
The story also includes discussions and depictions of murder, violence, gore, and blood-drinking. Malachi is a demon, and religious imagery is present throughout the story.
Additionally, the book references slavery and imprisonment as past events. 🫣
Final Thoughts
Overall, Sweet Vengeance is a fantastic read that is sure to satisfy fans of paranormal romance. Oniomoh has created a rich and engaging world full of fascinating characters, and the story is both exciting and emotional.
It’s a thrilling read that tackles heavy topics with sensitivity and care. However, due to the trigger warnings mentioned above, readers who are sensitive to these topics should approach the book with caution.
If you’re a fan of paranormal romance and looking for a story that explores the complexities of trauma and love, this is the book 9 times out of 10 for you.
