Black BookTubers
BookTube is my jam–full stop. On any given Sunday, you can find me watching/listening to a BookTuber while I’m cleaning or folding clothes after doing laundry.
From book hauls, reviews, reading wrap-ups, to the vlogs when they are going to the bookstore and stopping at their favorite coffee shop… I love it all. I’ve noticed that it can become a task to find Black BookTubers (not impossible, but ya have to do some digging) because of the algorithm.
I recently went on the hunt to find some new BookTubers, and once I found them, I figured my Sistah Girls would probably enjoy them as well. I’ve also included some of my faves that I’m already following…
Loc’D Booktician
I have been locked in with Bre for a while; her reviews are good. She tells you about a book, gives you an overview, and talks about the characters and their obstacles… without giving away the book. That is such a rarity when people do in-depth book reviews; reviewers will either tell you too much or be so general that it feels like they just restated the book’s synopsis.
She covers multiple genres, so check her out if you’re looking for something new to read or hear her thoughts about a book you’ve already read.
Read with Melanin
I love everything about Read With Melanin’s channel. You get some good book reviews, but also a deep dive into thoughts around things happening in the literary world. For example, in one video, she questions whether Romance is ruining the Fantasy genre.
I really like it when BookTubers discuss topics within the literary space, whether it’s book trends or attending book events. It showcases their personality that might be absent during a regular book review video.
Read With Melanin is a whole vibe from the hair to her point of view; it’s a vibe.
It’s a Wrap xx
Now, this is a new BookTuber for me, but I watched the video above (first one), and I think she’s a BookTuber you should follow. Her reviews are honest without being disrespectful towards the author (that matters a great deal to me), and she clearly lays out why she liked a book or why she didn’t.
Her genre of choice leans towards Romance and Urban Lit.
Dezmond Zee
I have been following Dezmond for a while, and I absolutely love his personality; it shines through in his reviews. His cadence on camera reminds you of a friend who can make you laugh and also give it to you straight. And that’s why his reviews are so good.
Plus, he read all the genres, so if you’re looking for new reads outside of your normal genre picks, Dezmond is for you.
Bookmarked by Alia
Alia does all the things: book reviews, hauls, and vlogs. Her videos definitely give Sistah Girl vibes, and I enjoy watching her vlogs a lot.
When you watch her vlogs, you get a feel for her likes and dislikes outside of books. Now, initially, I didn’t think I would enjoy watching a vlog from a BookTuber, but I certainly do love them, and Alia does them well.
Shelbey And The Book Club
Shelbey has a book club, a podcast, and a BookTube channel… can you say, doing all the things.
I like her channel because she does monthly reading wrap-ups and quick reviews on the books she’s read for the month. I appreciate those videos because sometimes I don’t need a 20-minute review for a single book; I need a little overview to see if the book will pique my interest.
Lex Reads
Lex is a BookTuber who also shares vlogs, monthly reading wrap-ups, and listicle videos by genre. For example, if you’re looking for a YA round-up or a Historical Fiction round-up, her channel is for you.
Third Eye Reads
Third Eye Reads is a new channel I’ve recently started following, and what I love about her content is that she has a clear breakdown of her likes and dislikes.
Now, what do I mean by a clear breakdown? She lets us know how the book flowed, if there were too many grammatical errors that disrupted her reading experience, and how that impacted her ratings. I live for a thorough review.
