Black Romance Novels That Celebrate Sisterhood

Female friendships are some of the best friendships a girl can have. Your friends will have your back and they will also check you when necessary.

In romance, we often overlook female friendships that form alongside the romantic ones, and they are just as important. Your Sistah Girls are often the ones you first tell when you meet the new bae, and when things go left with that man, they are the first ones to have your back.

So this is a list of some of our favorite female friendships in Black Romance novels…

Stay with Me the Strickland Sisters Book 1 by Alexander House

When I read this story initially, I related 100% with this story, as I have three living sisters with a fierce attitude regarding little ole me.

The story electrifies the response the Strickland sisters showed Angela with each crisis. Angela ‘4C’ Strickland was a hair vlogger who was not looking to be in a relationship with anyone.

Her plan did not go as planned because the man she tried to avoid was placid. The Sisters were Angela’s support system at every turn. Real friends can also be your sisters.

Started From a Selfie (Holliday Sisters) by Nicole Falls

Friends who are sisters are still in full force in this story. JuJu, Joey, and the girls are a complete and total trip. The glued-at-the-hip sisters and the girlfriends manage everything as a team.

This story gives readers a funny vibe, highlighting sisters as friends and their fantastic support system. JuJu, Jojo, Noelle, and the rest of the crew were a lesson in wholehearted friendship on steroids.

Pulling Doubles (The Wright Brothers Book 2) by Christina C. Jones

The friends in this story were hilarious. Devyn and Reese were friends by association with the fine-as-wine Wright Brothers. Reese is the bane of her husband Jay’s existence in book one, and she maintains her comedic antics in this book.

When Reese and Devyn are in the same scene, it is all about girl power, good friends, and many giggles. The story is a splendid example of women and friendship with a powerful premise.

Sometimes unconventional friendships are the most interesting for thriving and growing. Everyone needs a friend who will tell them the truth in the story, no matter what kind of shenanigans your friend might get you both involved.

In this story, Keisha tries to set Imani up with her new boss, and her tactics are too funny. She recovered quickly and tried to dial back her enthusiasm about Imani and Franklin (Tre) being a perfect match.

The ladies’ friendship took a slight backseat to Tre and Imani’s relationship, but you will be delighted whenever Keisha and Imani spend time together in the storyline.

Charis & Tyren (Recipe For Love Book 9) by K.C. Mills

The story is short and a slow burn. But in its brevity, you will quickly experience the kindship and female friendship between funny girl Treenah and the main character, Charis.

Charis was a barista with a Valentine’s secret love potion. She volleyed the idea of using the potion on two of her handsome customers.

Her friend Treenah did not believe the potion worked. Her hilarious comments and friendly vibe pulled the story together and kept me from strangling Charis and her indecisive thinking. The story is about a recipe for love, girlfriends, and good vibes.

This is another short novel with enough tangible parts to give you a chance to delve into this friendship and love story. It is a follow-up story for these friends and relationships introduced in Mr. Tall, Dark, and Unavailable.

Best friends Nia and Jamila are back to support one another—especially Jamila, who was still brokenhearted after her breakup. Nia helped her friend navigate her newfound friendship with their mutual friend, Morgan, a painter (artist) with admirable energy.

Female friendships are magical when they are genuine.

Sistah Girls, each story focuses on how wonderful it is to have another Sistah Girl to hang with and get into trouble together.

It was equally important for these ladies to have a comrade’s shoulder to lean on in tough times. There is nothing like the love and friendship of us Sistah Girls.
