Black Thrillers to Devour This Fall
Sistah Girls, a remarkable story that happens to be a Thriller is like music to my ears. I would be inclined to dance a jig if that story also includes romance.
A good Thriller will have you on the edge of your seat while trying to finish the story before your morning alarm goes off. It will have you playing the game of Clue while also enjoying the ride of not knowing what’s next.
Here is a listicle of Thrillers that you can devour this Fall…
Her Name is Knight (Nena Knight) by Jasmin Angoe
Her Name Is Knight is the debut novel by Yasmin Angoe and it’s the first in a three-part series. This was my first read by Angoe and it didn’t disappoint.
Angoe gave the story so much depth about a Ghanaian child taken from her home as a child. Nena later grows up to become an elite assassin. If that alone does not pique your interest… when Nena moves to Miami, she has to choose whether to be loyal to her new beliefs or commit to a ruthless business syndicate.
Vigilant Love (McAllister Security Book 3) by Te`Russ
If you have not read anything by Té Russ, this book is a beautiful place to start if you are looking for a fast-paced romantic thriller.
In this story, the District Attorney, Trish Barnes, is caught in a case that could prove deadly for this court officer. The DA hired her ex, Boomer McAllister, from McAllister Security to keep her safe. The second chance part is lovely; the steamy side is hot, and the thrills are bountiful.
Black Phoenix (Atlanta Homicide Squad Book 6) by Cortez Law III
Cortez Law III is a new to me author, but the story fits nicely into my mystery, thriller, and law enforcement genres, which I thoroughly enjoy.
In this story, Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs was a member of the Atlanta X-Men Homicide Squad. The unit’s mission is solving unsolvable crimes forced on specific individuals. The city had an arsonist and serial killer targeting Civil Rights Leaders. Need I say more?
The Trouble With Our Love: A Second Chance Romance by Wynta Tyme
The Trouble with Our Love is more romantic suspense; however, Wynta Tyme always throws in a few plot twists and clutch moments to keep readers guessing.
The evildoers and shady characters were front and center for this one. Kable and Lockett had to endure some tough things to get to their happiness. This is a good read.
Falling For Rome (The Beautiful Assassin and The Ingenutive Thug) (Law Boy’s Series) by Edwina Fort
Although this story is five years old, the story is relevant to today’s political and social climate. This novel is about a decorated female US Navy Seal with a highly accomplished service record.
Nakhti’s life was never easy, so her accomplishments were far greater than she imagined. The FBI later recruited Nakhti as a hired assassin. Her assignment to eliminate a brilliant drug dealer named Romeo Reevers would take on a life of its own making. Book two continues the cat-and-mouse game between the assassin and the ingenious thug.
Eventually, fate will have Romeo, and Nakhti meet their designed destination at the end of the story.
When No One is Watching: A Thriller by Alyssa Cole
First, let me state that this story was indeed a thriller from the first chapter until this story ended, and I finally caught my breath.
A few national reviews described the story as a mix of Rear Window and Get Out. It is closer to the movie Get Out. The story is about a Brooklyn neighborhood where neighbors Sydney and Theo are bathed in conspiracies plaguing their block. The who dunnit will make your head spill.
The Perfect Sister by Desiree
This is surely a different read for me, picture this, an entire community of Black women that is run by nothing but Black women… it’s giving cult but make it Black Girl Magic. Pandora Harris grew up with this group of women and everything was cool until her best friend went missing.
Pandora decides to find her best friend and every twist and turn that you could or couldn’t think of happens. There are plot twists and jaw-dropping moments that will have wanting a part two, luckily for you, there is one.
The Cartel Deluxe Edition: Books 1-3 by Ashley & JaQuavis
The series is a drama-filled, fast-paced story about a Cartel in Miami and a contract killer. The Murder Mamas leader, Miamor, falls for Carter Jones, the illegitimate son of Cartel leader Carter Diamond. The pair will have an attraction that would generally be unfathomable based on their familial connection and purpose.
When I tell you that this series is a page-turner… you will keep reading one book after another until you finish the series.
Thrillers are just the stories you need when you’re looking for something to get your heart racing and the pages turning.
