The Lex List

Sistah Girls, trust me you’re going to want to see this, 5 Star reads are involved within this post! TWO new to me authors that have won my readership devotion and a quick binge as I dived back into the world of The Carter’s by my new fave in the Urban world Ladii Nesha. Here is what I read and LOVED in October!

4 Stara flick between friendss for A Flick Between Friends by Shae Sanders

“Are we really having this conversation right now? Star, just send out some resumes like a normal person, I’m begging you.” – Lennox

Star and Lennox are work besties that practically do everything together and know everything about one another. Star being the outgoing down for anything friend while Lennox is the laidback yet always down tag along for the fun ride friend.

After major cuts take place at the company they work for, both Lennox and Star find themselves suddenly jobless. In her need for income, Star comes up with a plan to make some cash with a fans-only page. That plan quickly turns into something else.

Only, she’ll need her best friend in a different capacity to get things on and poppin…if you know what I mean.

My Thoughts
Star and Lennox ignite the pages! Their friendship is genuine, and readers will easily vibe to them in that capacity until things heat up and you realize there is no going back. I like the author’s writing style; I thought her concept was fun and I enjoyed having it unfold before my eyes. It was a quick read and I highly recommend it to all romance lovers that enjoy a good ‘friends to lovers’ read.

we outside by nicole jackson4 Stars for We Outside (Borrowed Love) by Nicole Jackson

‘I had always been told that I was beautiful, and I had believed it…until I never heard the words grace Money’s lips’ – Kia’s Inner Monologue

Kia is a rebel without a cause. Or maybe she does have a cause, you see Kia wants Money, and she wants to be his one and only. Yes, Money is a male, he’s a guy she’s been dealing with. Everything about their relationship is toxic.

Kia is constantly ruffling the feathers of everyone she loves. Her mom, her dad, her sister, her cousin, and of course Money. If Kia does not get the attention, she wants from the ones she loves she’ll take it by any means. She’s a rebel, but her cause is love–I think. LOL!

My Thoughts
While We Outside is a Borrowed Love spin-off, I do not think it is necessary to read the series before reading this story. I do however recommend that you read it because it’s a great series.

Kia is not the ideal female lead that pulls readers in. Her nasty attitude doesn’t come from being misunderstood, unloved, and abandoned. She’s spoiled and kind of a brat but at the end of the day, she just wants to be loved and to feel chosen. Sooooo while I don’t agree with her ways I do understand her plight. I can’t wait for book two!

Go deep by rilzy adams5 Stars for Go Deep (Unexpected Lovers 1) by Rilzy Adams

‘This was the fifth relationship to end because the woman was insecure about his friendship with Navaya.’ -Xander’s Inner Monologue

Erotica author Navaya Howard finds herself in a downward spiral after reading reviews that trash her latest release. Feeling desperate and in need of inspiration, she decides to recruit her best friend Xander.

Her proposal is simple, she needs hot passionate sex to help her write hot passionate sex scenes. Only, there is no going back after opening pandora’s box.

My Thoughts
Main character Navaya Howard’s writing may have fizzled out, but Rilzy Adams made sparks flyyyyyy. My goodness! I loved every second of it too! Navaya and Xander have been best friends from the womb with mothers that are also best friends.

That added twist helped boost the impact of their bond and let readers see just how impenetrable it is no matter who they’re currently dating. Adams also takes the time to throw in an additional somewhat hidden plotline with her secondary characters. Thus building a new story by giving her readers anticipation for what’s to come in a future book. I highly recommend Go Deep to all romance lovers!

fraud by ladii nesha5 Stars for Fraud by Ladii Nesha

‘She felt like she was trying to breathe through a straw, and every time she inhaled, it was like she swallowed a needle The only word to describe it was dying. Zoey was dying, and no one around her noticed.’

When Alexis starts working at Pieces she sets her sights on the crew leader Davey. However, another young lady on the crew who is not so new peeps her stare and lets Alexis know that Davey isn’t like the other guys at pieces.

Davey has a girl at home and is faithful. Sadly, this spurs Alexis on even more to get with Davey, and unfortunately, his life takes on many twists and turns thereafter.

My Thoughts
First of all, this book TOOK ME OUT! I can’t even go in with descriptions because I don’t want to give the story away.

Talk about learning the hard way, that’s exactly what Davey does. I gave this book five stars because not only did it truly live up to its title, Fraud, it also shows you exactly what happens when deceived by lust. The author is methodical with her twists to and I loved how it played out. Read the book! It is a definite page-turner.

bambi series4 Stars for Bambi books Two & Three by Ladii Nesha

“Don’t feel stupid, boo. We all fall victim to love.” -Bambi

The Carter’s are in full effect in books two and three and they are on their worst behavior! Well, not everyone. A trip to go speed dating for the ladies takes a turn for the worst once the men in their lives find out.

However, the one lady available and looking for love finds it in the most unsuspecting moment. Tristan and Shayla are battling it out once he gets back to his old whoring ways inciting a side of Shayla no one is prepared for.

Check continues to badger his wife Kimmy and stalk her every move. Bambi and King are..well–Bambi and King if you know what I mean but more so the new and somewhat improved versions of themselves. LOL! And the drama and oh boy is there plenty of it, yes, the drama hits an all-time high.

My Thoughts
Not only could I not put the book down I laughed till I had tears in my eyes. Ladii Nesha clearly has a great sense of humor, and it shows. I read book months before but recently saw a post that reminded me that Ladii Nesha followed up with more books in this series, so I dove right in. I pretty much binged her catalog and decided to share my top faves with you all.

IF YOU’VE READ ANY OF THE BOOKS FEATURED I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS!

For The Curious: Now, I don’t know how others base their ratings but the following is how I base mine and why. The writing style of an author holds major weight for me. Even though I have a few preferences, I’ve decided to go by a template with regards to how I judge a book to avoid being biased.

How appealing are its characters, how well do they develop, plot developments, how descriptive is the writing or lack thereof. Then I follow it by looking at the author’s ability to properly foreshadow future events, resolutions to major and minor events, and how well the author carries multiple themes and/or plotlines throughout the book.

Basically, judging the story’s overall structure which should be important to any writer, and because of all of this, I am extremely stingy with giving out Stars.
