“Woke up this morning with my mind set on loving me.”

I can’t get Jamila Woods song “Holy” out of my head. If you need an uplifting anthem for 2017 –this would be the one. Woods takes self-care and blends it effortlessly with black girl magic for one of the most uplifting songs that I have heard all year. Every line in the song is an affirmation.

“My cup is full up, what I got is enough. Nobody completes me, don’t mess with my stuff

My cup is full up, what I got is enough Nobody completes me, don’t mess with my love

Surely, surely, surely, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,” she sings.

The video opens with Woods sitting in a tub filled with water. Although she is not naked she is down to her bra and as she sings her braids begin to take on a life of their own and rise to the air. The neutral colors used in the video make the women glisten as they dance and move with grace.

My favorite scene is of Woods walking down the aisle of the church. It’s very reminiscent of a wedding but instead of going to meet a man she finds herself and goes back in the tub which is reminiscent of a baptism. The entire video is about self-love, sisterhood, being okay with yourself, and knowing that you are enough. If that’s not Sistah Girl music then I don’t know what is.

Watch the video above and let me know your thoughts in the comments section!
