Four reasons to read Resistance now!
Sistah Girls, if you’re like me quarantine has made it harder than ever to focus on reading. Work and home life have intertwined and it has left me feeling frazzled most days.
However, I still want to read and what has been a saving grace is short stories. Now some of you may frown on shorts because they leave you wanting more–but when done right they can be just as fulfilling as full-length novels.
I recently read Nia Forrester’s Resistance, here are four reasons you should read it too…
Issa Love Story
This book is a love story. First, there is a look. Then, you can feel the pull between Kai and Lila. Actually, Nia Forrester hooks us in from the first paragraph when she writes, “I met my wife in jail today. I know it sounds crazy but for real, I’ma marry this girl.” (Well…damn!)
Relevant To The Times
It’s relevant to what’s going on in our nation right now. Some people want to protest and others just want to get in the mix. The characters are young and have to make some tough decisions.
It’s A Short Story
It’s a short story, which a lot of people may actually need right now. We’re all still quarantined (for the most part) and dealing with a lot. If you’re like me, your attention span may not be the most focused right now, so you want to read something – but nothing too long, perhaps? This book would be perfect.
It Will Make You Think
This book may make you check your own self! Kai says: “I don’t think I ‘do racial justice work.’ Of course, I believe in racial justice, and I’ll put some skin in the game at times like this, but am I really doing the work? Nah, not really. I’m a tourist.” This comment had me looking in the mirror…just sayin’.
SIS, GIVE THIS NOVELLA A TRY…
If you haven’t realized this by now, I’m giving this short story five stars!
