Sistah Girls, A.A. Lewis is that girl. She’s an author, entrepreneur, literary advocate, marketing expert, and creator of the Black Writers Appreciation Event aka BRAE.
BRAE is a highly anticipated literary event where Black readers can access a portion of participating authors’ catalogs for free. What started as a way for Lewis to show readers appreciation has now turned into one of the biggest virtual literary events that brings Black authors and readers together across all genres.
A.A. Lewis describes her writing as “Sophista-Ratchet,” a style that resonates deeply with fans of her work. Her characters are edgy, and her storylines are raw and unfiltered. She tackles taboo topics that aren’t highlighted enough in our community, and with each story, readers can read about real-life issues through fictional characters.
Lewis is also very active within the Black literary space providing mentorship to indie authors and sharing her platform to bring awareness to new talent.
I got the chance to talk to Lewis before we closed out 2024, we spoke about her journey as an author, battling sickness while running a business, and the Black Readers Appreciation Event.
Sistah Girls, this is one of my favorite interviews of the year, Lewis is a gem in the literary space and it was my absolute honor to talk to her.
