Sistah Girls, sadly our friend Hot Girl Summer–my favorite season by the way–has come and gone for the year 2024. Ushering in her wake the time for NFL Sundays, HBCU homecomings, and the Nation’s observation of a little day known to the Latimore family as Gobble Gobble Day; aka Thanksgiving.

Seasonal preference aside, I cannot discount the kindred aura that seems to saturate the air every time fall rolls around. What can I say, there’s something about color-changing leaves and sweater weather that just gives, “We are family.”

Since we’re already talking about Thanksgiving and family, why don’t we go ahead and talk about Black Lit as well! Sistah Girls, without further ado here are 8 Thanksgiving invites in Black Romance that I would want (and happily accept 🤭).

(NOTE: Invitations are not listed in any particular order.)

Plate 1: The Tripp Family: Hold Me While You Wait by Kimberly Brown

I love me a blended family where every adult involved acts like they have some sense.

However, civility aside, I would love to be at this family’s table for Gobble Gobble Day because of how hilarious Somya, Xander and their three children are. No doubt this would be an evening spent busting the very gut I plan on stuffing.

What was my first reason, you ask? Simple: I want some fighting tips from little Miss Jazzlyn (IYKYK).

Plate 2: The Eighth Wonder Gang: To the Moon by Evelyn Latrice

Sistah Girls, you know the feeling you get when you see your favorite younger cousins all grown up and excelling at this thing called life? That is how I feel about Luna, Javen, French, Solar, and little Qamar.

I think a Thanksgiving with them would be full of genuine love, a little bit of friendly competition at the Spades table, and of course, some good ole karaoke that will leave you feeling over the moon!

Plate 3: The Delgato Family: The Delgato Family Series by Jahquel J.

Y’all tripping if you didn’t think I’d be making my way to the Delgato compound to grab a pork-free plate; courtesy of Alaia. One of the Delgato brothers’ available friends (I don’t want no smoke Capri). And to talk more about dolphins with my good sis Erin.

Not to mention all the action that could pop off at any given moment… car chases, random trips out the country, and fine-ass men who don’t play any games about their families.

Sistah Girls, this family could send my Thanksgiving invitation via smoke signal and I’d be there before the vapor hit the air!

Note this series begins with Capone, then Cappadonna, and lastly Capri.

Plate 4: The Montana Family: Demon’s Dream: An Unexpected Love by elle kayson

Are they completely unhinged, a lot toxic, and hella chaotic? Yes. Yes they are. BUT, what Demon and Dream lack in traditionality, they more than makeup for with diverting intrigue.

A Thanksgiving dinner spent with these two and their extended family members would be more entertaining than the time I watched Teri try to stab Miles for sleeping with Cousin Faith. Granted, I’d be sitting by the nearest exit, I still wouldn’t skip out on RSVPing for this invitation.

Plate 5: The Fouche Family: The Georgia Arcana Series by Dria Anderson

A family curse, magic, and a murder mystery… OH MY!

The Fouche women would not have to cast nary a spell for me to agree to Gobble Gobble Day at their place. For this reader, talking to and learning magic from Nicole, Aundrey, and Vanessa would be the textbook definition of Black Girl Magic!

I hope we’ll be able to finish dinner without having to defeat another army of the undead; boy would that spoil my appetite.

Plate 6: The Ross Family: Marry Me This Christmas by Jasmine Nicole

Jasmine Nicole has proven time and time again that her characters do not half-step when it comes to celebrating the holidays.

Natalie, Fury, Jeremiah, and Jonathan always give me swoons whenever I revisit the pages of MMTC. Add my girl (Nat’s bestie) Crystal, her man Martin, and the rest of this extended and blended family to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a bonafide Mahogany Thanksgiving–Black Lit style!

This is one invitation I wouldn’t miss for the world. (NOTE: This book is part of a series that starts with Love Me This Christmas)

Plate 7: Eden & Asmodeus: A Summoned Husband by S.J. Stewart

I knew the minute I read the first page of A Summoned Husband that I could hang with Eden and her girls. Not only do they remind me of time spent with my bestie, but the ladies are downright hilarious!

If I get the chance to be invited to Gobble Gobble day with these characters, I look forward to asking Asmodeus a million and one questions about demon life. As well as a full evening of cracking up and cutting loose.

On the flip side, however, I wouldn’t even read so much as a text message while in their house. A girl can’t be too careful.

Plate 8: Goldyn & The Fellas: Just Right: A Why Choose Romance by Shon

914eMGLd4aL. SL1500

A chance to taste some of Sincere’s delicious treats would be enough to get me to this family’s Thanksgiving table, I would desire to read every shelf of Goldyn’s bookstore that would keep me there for a beat.

Okay, okay, and perhaps, I’d linger around a tad longer to see if the fellas are looking for another lady to treat just right. #SOFTLIFEMEPUHLEEZE!!

Well Sistah Girls, eight plates later, and I am stuffed! If you haven’t already checked out any of the books mentioned above, I  encourage you to do so. Also, drop a comment below and let me know who else is dishing out dinner invitations.

Until next time, remember not to eat everybody’s potato salad. PEACE!
