A Conversation With Nakeia Homer
Sistah Girls, it’s the end of the year and I wanted to end it with someone who could help us say goodbye to 2024 and embrace the new year ahead. Author and Well-Being Educator Nakeia Homer was the perfect woman for the job.
Nakeia Homer is a Well-Being educator, author, and the founder of Heal and Grow Daily, a well-being community and private membership. She’s a sought-after well-being expert and trauma-informed educator who facilitates powerful workshops and keynotes on the power of story, self-love/self-care, and purpose.
Her Healing Inequality Through Allyship course is at David Eckles School of Business, University of Utah. Homer has released a new book, Habits For Healing: Reclaim Your Purpose, Peace, & Power. In her book, she takes us through the steps to heal from our past and create new habits so we can have the life we truly desire.
My favorite part of the book was the chapter on self-forgiveness, she introduced capacity to showcase how we often beat ourselves up for making the wrong decisions or not being able to meet the goals we set for ourselves not realizing that our capacity plays an important role.
It’s not that we are incapable of doing better, but we may have been at our capacity and were unable (for whatever reason) to go beyond that level. And that’s not a bad thing, knowing your capacity frees you from beating yourself up because you gave all you could. That changed the way I viewed achieving my goals.
I got the chance to speak with Homer to have a deeper discussion on what it takes to change our lives using habits. And how healing from our past traumas gives us space to create the life we want.
